Heal from Religious Trauma

Find Grounding, Clarity, and Hope after Church Trauma

Take the Next Step in Your Journey of Healing & Reclaiming

I am passionate about helping people move forward from religious trauma because I spent years reeling from my own toxic church experience. I ended up getting a Master’s degree in theology, doing 4 rounds of therapy, conversing with numerous people who had been through church hurt, leaving church, exploring numerous churches, and reading every trauma book I could get my hands on.

Ultimately, I realized there are 5 core components needed to heal and move forward from church trauma. Each person’s journey will be unique, but these elements are crucial to meaningful, sustainable recovery.

My coaching program is built on these 5 elements, which combine wisdom and insights from trauma theory, spiritual healers, positive psychology, IFS (parts of self),  the Enneagram, and my own lived experience and the experiences of those I have accompanied on their healing journeys.

1. Build Safety in Your Body

Verbal processing is not enough to heal. Our body actually contains our deepest knowing about our wounds and our needs. Connecting with your body on a deeper level is a core component of building stability and agency after trauma.

2. Make Sense of the Past

Sometimes focusing on the past can keep us stuck in it. But when done with care, revisiting the past can help us release our wounds and learn from our experiences.

3. Grow in Self-Compassion

In church, we are taught to center our lives and our identity on God’s love. We are not often taught, however, how to love ourselves deeply.

4. Heal Your Imagination

Rigid, high-control religion shuts down our vision, our creativity, and our ability to imagine. Without healing this part of us, we stay stuck in the narrow view of life and of ourselves we have been given. Healing the imagination opens up worlds of hope.

5. Rebuild Relational Connection

After religious trauma, it is natural to withdraw into oneself for protection. People who seemed trustworthy turned out to be dangerous. Relational reconnection must be done with care, but connection with others is a vital thread of the healing journey that allows us to reintegrate into ordinary life.
